NeuroStar is the first and only FDA-approved transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment for this age group, making it the fourth FDA-approved indication for NeuroStar. "The prevalence of depression in adolescents and young adults has accelerated since the COVID-19 pandemic."
NeuroStar TMS therapy treatment does not involve anesthesia or sedation, and patients are awake and alert during the treatment session. A typical treatment consists of 5 treatments per week over a period of 4 to 6 weeks for a total of 20 to 30 separate treatment sessions. Each treatment session lasts 37.5 minutes.
NeuroStar is a noninvasive, outpatient treatment that takes just 19 minutes a day. During each session, a precisely padded coil is placed over the head while magnetic pulses deliver the therapy to the right mood-regulating spot in the brain.
